Course Outcomes

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1

Identify the different breeds used in commercial pig farming as well as the hybrid breeds which are used in the industry.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2

Understand the importance of all types of breeding systems in modern pig farming.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3

Understand and implement the appropriate nutritional requirements for a pig production system.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4

Ensure the best feeding regimes are implemented and understood to ensure efficient pig production.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5

Understand and implement the correct housing requirements for a modern piggery.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 6

Management and feeding of the pig breeding stock, sows and their litters.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 7

Feeding and management of the fattening pigs.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 8

Identify and treat pig diseases.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 9

Understand the importance of the economics of pig production to remain competitive.
