Course Outcomes
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1
Understand the different horse terminology, types of horses and their uses as well as their equipment and training methods.
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2
Identify the different breeds of horses.
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3
Understand the characteristics and mechanics of the horse digestive system.
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4
Understand and implement proper feeding practices as well as the necessary composition of feed for good horse care.
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5
Implement good stable management practices.
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 6
Identify and treat the common diseases found in horses.
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 7
Identify and implement good saddler techniques using the saddle, bridle and other equipment.
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 8
Implement general training of horses such as breaking and backing as well as more specialised training techniques.
SPECIFIC OUTCOME 9
Understand the importance of good breeding practices and the management thereof.
4 Week course at 5 hours per week as a guide, but students can complete on own time
