SPECIFIC OUTCOMES COVERED IN THIS LEARNER GUIDE:

When you have completed this course, you will be able to:

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1

Understand the importance of forestry in South Africa and the status of forestry in South Africa.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2

Understand the importance of trees and the environment as well as wood and its uses.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3

The learner will be able to identify timber trees and understand the uses of these trees in Southern and Central Africa as well as some of the indigenous woodlands.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4

Understand the inter-relationship between vegetation and land use, the environmental consequences of deforestation, the urban problem and possible solutions to these problems.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5

The learner will be able to understand and manage the nursery practice, planting woodlots, managing fire and harvesting wood.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 6

The learner will be able to implement and understand preparation of timber and paper making.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 7

The learner will be able to identify and understand the characteristics, yield, quality and simple methods of charcoal manufacturing as well as tree planting.

 

3 Week course at 5 hours per week as a guide, but students can complete on own time
