Course Outcomes

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 

Gain a very good understanding regarding the sheep breeds available to farmers in Southern Africa.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2

Understand  and  implement  important  aspects  of  sheep  management  such  as  breeding,  selection and culling and other points of sheep management.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3

Understand and can implement the different lambing systems.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 

Ensure the best care for lambs and rearing orphan lambs.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5

Understand  the  important  management  procedures  with  sheep  from  handling,  dosing,  injecting, hoof trimming, docking and castration.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 6

Understand the importance of sheep nutrition and their feed requirements.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 7

Understand the different diseases of sheep and how they affect the sheep and the best ways to treat them.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 8

Introduction to the different aspects of wool production.

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 9

Gain an understanding of goat breeds, goat milk and mohair and meat production.

 

3 Week course at 5 hours per week as a guide, but students can complete on own time
