When you have completed this module, you will be able to:

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1

Understand the dairy breeds and the importance of comparing and selecting different dairy herds.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2

Understand the composition of milk and the importance of the factors affecting the composition of milk.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3

Identify the importance of the lactation cycle as well as the importance of feeding balanced rations to the dairy animals.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4

Understand and be able to implement the different management, growth and feeding factors affecting the dairy heifer and the dairy cow.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5

The learner will be able to manage a milk and dairy farm – from milking the cows to the cooling of milk.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 6

The learner will understand the planning and components of a milking machine system as well as the advantages of mechanical milking thus being able to choose the most suitable system.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 7

The learner will understand the importance and use of record keeping and will be able to analyse records.

 

3 Week course at 5 hours per week as a guide, but students can complete on own time
