When you have completed this module, you will be able to:

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1

Understand the importance of disease prevention and the various systems used to stop the spread of disease such as slaughter and quarantine.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2

Implement a vaccination program and ensure that the necessary first aid instruments are available.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3

Understand the effects that ticks and tick-borne diseases have on production and ensure that correct dipping facilities are used.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4

Introduction to viral diseases of cattle and their causes, transmission, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and control.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5

Introduction to bacterial diseases of cattle and their cause, transmission, symptoms, diagnosis,  treatment and control.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 6

Understand the cause, transmission, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and control of protozoal diseases that affect cattle.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 7

Introduction to the parasitic diseases that affect cattle.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 8

Introduction and understanding of parasitic, viral, bacterial and other diseases which affect sheep.

 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 9

Introduction to the most common diseases found in pigs and poultry.

 

3 Week course at 5 hours per week as a guide, but students can complete on own time
